Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) About Therapy
-
The first therapy session is unlike other sessions because it is a time to get to know one another. You can use this time to determine if my therapy approach is the right fit for you. I will use the majority of the session collecting information about you–your past, what brought you to therapy, your current lifestyle, strategies you tried to address your concerns, etc. We will also discuss your strengths, goals, and hopes for the future.
-
Sessions will be focused on working towards your personal therapy goals. I first seek to understand, listen without judgement, and provide support. We will work together to identify areas you want to address and I will use my training and experience to guide you towards making choices that support your mental and physical well-being. I utilize an integrative approach that is tailored to each individual; there is no one-size-fits-all approach that works for everyone. I welcome feedback and collaboration in all sessions.

It’s natural to wonder if therapy will actually help or if it’s the right path for your particular situation. In our initial session, we will discuss your goals and if my approach to therapy is a good fit for you. I specialize in working with individuals struggling with life transitions, depression, anxiety, stress, motherhood, parenting, and difficulty coping with day-to-day challenges. I believe change is possible for anyone and that I can help with any of the challenges listed above and more. If we determine that my approach is not the right one for your situation, I will provide you with referrals for someone who can better assist you.

This can vary depending on the individual’s needs. Some goals can be addressed in just a few sessions while ongoing therapy can be helpful for deeper, more complex issues or for individuals who want to better understand themselves. This is something we can discuss in your first session.

Holistic therapy simply means treating the whole person, with a focus on the mind-body connection to promote growth and lasting change. If you’ve ever had a stress headache or a stomach ache when nervous or anxious, you know that the mind and body are connected. I take into consideration how your mental health and physical health influence each other, incorporating techniques that support the mind, body, and spirit. The interventions I use are evidence-based and supported by research, such as mindfulness, meditation, joyful movement and/or exercise, cognitive strategies such as CBT and ACT, connecting with nature, and more. Not all strategies will work for everyone and together we will find what works best for you.
